It Was Easter!

Hey Guys!

So Easter was last Sunday (20th April) and it's where we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Usually this is with lots of chocolate! For lots of people I know Easter isn't a big deal you maybe get a chocolate egg and have a nice dinner and spend time with your family. But for me Easter is probably one of the biggest holidays in my family's calendar so I thought I would tell you about it.

So I come from a really big family I have 2 sisters and a brother who have 7 children between them and my parents both have 7 brothers and sisters and they all have children who have children so you can imagine how big our family gatherings are! My family is so big that it is difficult to gather in the one place at the one time and often we have to rent out a local village hall or something like that.

For Easter even though my mum is Catholic I haven't actually gone to a church service since I was very little. I think this is because my siblings don't really go to church and she doesn't want to force her grandchildren to go. Unlike my mum my dad doesn't really believe in God and we celebrate Easter with his family who all live in Scotland with us.

There is a tradition in Britain (not to sure if it happens in other places) where you roll hard boiled eggs down a hill which represents the moving of the rock which covers the tomb that Jesus was in. Instead of rolling them down a small hill like "normal familys" my family go to a large damn in the middle of nowhere and chuck the eggs. Different family members (usually the boys) go to the bottom of the hill leading to the damn and we try and hit them with the eggs while they collect the eggs that are still in tact and they try and hit us. It's fun and all the family enjoy it because we are all trying not to get hit! This year the weather was really sunny such a contrast to last year when we had snow!

After we have all chucked our eggs most of us climb down the hill to the damn it self and we try to run up it. it sounds pretty crazy but it's lots of fun. It is mostly the children that run up it while the adults supervise. The highest ever was my brother who got to the top 2nd line! At the end of this most of us have scraped knees and fingers! My nephew actually skinned the tops of his fingers this year!

After this we all get back in our cars and go to a local village hall and have a massive feast. We have pizza, chicken, pasta and SAUSAGE ROLLS! This is where we all just sit and chill and catch up. We always have so much food and I eat so much but it is all so good!

Depending on the weather we play a variety of games when its raining we play duck duck goose and a family favourite is the dish towel game. If it's sunny like it was this year there is a field beside the hall and we usually play header catch or rounders or kick ball depending on what things we have. This year we played kick ball and it was girls Vs boys and the girls won!

There is also a little wood beside the hall where lots of the younger children play hide and seek and they build dens and things like that. This year my auntie made an easter egg hunt for the very little children and my 2 year old niece loved it she collected lots of eggs!

Gradually all the family starts to leave and all my brothers and sisters come to my house for a sunday dinner! This year I played a lot with my two year old niece again she loves the duplo lego! There's so many of us and we all just chat and eat even though we have already eaten tons! After we have had dinner we exchange easter eggs. I got a galaxy egg from my parents, dairy milk egg from my brother, a malteaser egg from my sister and a creme egg from a very good family friend.

Overall this Easter was amazing but when it's nice weather it's always better because you get to enjoy being outside.

Let me know if you like this lifestyle I guess blog post and I hope you liked it! Thanks for checking it out! :)
