It Was Christmas!

Hey Guys!

Most of you know that last Thursday was Christmas Day a day full of family, friends and festivities. For me Christmas lasted for like 4 days and I thought I would give you a little insight into what happened and the traditions that happen every year.

Christmas Eve

Today was the first full day I had visitors. My eldest sister is here from Norway with her husband and three sons. I was already super anxious about the idea of Christmas so today for the most of it was me spent relaxing and setting myself up for all that was going to be happening the next day. I also met up with my best friend to exchange gifts even though I didn't give him his because the good part hasn't arrived yet...

In the evening we all began to get super excited about the idea of Christmas. We are a pretty competitive family and we played many a board game including Scrabble which was particularly competitive. I was in a team with my nephew and we were called 'Crazy Cats' we didn't win but we did put words out with the letter Q and Z which I was pretty impressed with! I also made mince pies with my mum. I wasn't allowed to eat them but I did make some! We usually go to Midnight Mass but this year because we had younger children we didn't. In a way I was relieved to find out that we weren't going because of all the people but also a little sad because it was a nice way to start Christmas Day.

Christmas Day

I was woken up at about 8:00 by my nephews telling me that Santa had been. We weren't allowed to go downstairs to see what was there so stuck to opening our stockings. I was still quite tired so after opening my stocking I went back to bed for a bit. I was then bombarded by my nephews telling me that we could go downstairs to our presents and we did just that! Seeing their faces get all excited about their presents from Santa made me happy and it was nice to have young children there.
By then the anxiety was beginning to hit pretty hard so while my family went on a Christmas Day walk I took my time getting ready which was just what I needed before my Christmas Dinner.

We had lentil soup to begin with which was amazing! Partly because it is homemade and my mum makes the best lentil soup! Then it was time for the dinner! We had turkey lined with bacon, stuffing, roast potatoes, potatoes in a creamy sauce, broccoli instead of brussel sprouts because no one eats them and pigs in blankets. My whole meal was smothered in gravy and it was so good! For pudding we had the choice of ice cream, christmas pudding or apple pie. I didn't have any space left in me so I didn't have any! After dinner while we were all in our food comas we had some family time watching the christmas specials and just generally hanging out.

Boxing Day

Today was the day that the rest of my family would be arriving. This made me especially anxious so I spent most of the morning tucked up in my bed with my book. My other sister then arrived with her husband and daughter and almost right after that my brother and his wife and 3 kids turned up. We had a full house! By then I decided it would be a good idea to get up even if it was for a little while. I did and then my dad's brother turned up with all of his family and the house was packed!

We had a family dinner which consisted of prawn cocktail for a starter, lasange as a main and then either ice cream, chocolate cake, christmas pudding or apple pie for desert. Once we had our dinner we all gathered in the living room to open all of the presents from each other. Usually this happens on New Years Eve but my sister decided to come for Christmas instead of New Years.

27th December

I actually left the house today! The whole family traveled up to Glasgow to go and see a Pantomime at the King's Theatre. It was Peter Pan and was honestly hilarious! Gary McHugh from Gary: Tank Commander was in it and he made it so funny! There was some pretty inappropriate jokes even though it was for kids but I don't think they picked up on them! Some of my family are from Norway and they could hardly understand what the people on stage were saying because they were talking with a very strong Glasweigan accent that I even found difficult!

After the panto had finished we all traveled back home and went for a family meal at a local Italian before my two sisters left the next day. It was nice to be out of the house with all of the family partly because we are such a big family that we find it difficult to do things like this but we do try. We were allowed 2 courses so of course we all chose a main meal and a pudding except my Dad which meant that we were waiting ages for our food to come! I had maccaroni cheese and that was it because I was so stuffed.

That was my Christmas this year! It was weird having tons of family round because we usually do everything at New Years so it was nice to have a change. I hope you all had a good Christmas too!

The Christmas Tag

Hey Guys!

I have seen this tag floating around the blogasphere and thought I would have a go at it! I'm not exactly in the Christmas spirit even though it is days away so hopefully this might begin to get me excited!

1. What Is You Favourite Christmas Movie?
Unlike most people I don't have a traditional Christmas film that I sit and watch every year with my family. In fact we as a family aren't massively keen on films at all but if I had to choose it would be between Elf and The Santa Clause.

2. When Do You Open Your Presents?
I usually open my present from Santa and my mum and dad on Christmas morning and then wait until after our Christmas dinner to open the rest that are under the tree. Depending on when my brothers and sisters come to visit I might have to wait until Hogmany to even open some of them!

3. What's Your Favourite Christmas Memory?
I don't have a specific memory that I can remember that really stands out. But I always enjoyed jumping into my mum and dad's bed at the crack of dawn while I opened my stocking before going downstairs to open the other presents.

4. Favourite Festive Food?
I'm a sucker for a good mince pie if I'm honest and I love baking them a few nights before Christmas with my mum. I also love stuffing but I don't know if that counts as a festive food... Let me know if you think it does!

5. Favourite Christmas Gift?
Hmmm, well I love every gift that I get because it reminds me how lucky I am to have so many people around me but a gift that sticks out in my head is a dolls house that I got when I was about 5 or 6. It came all kitted out with the dolls and the furniture and it was called 'Catriona's Cottage' I still have it now and was actually playing with it the other day because my niece was visiting.

6. Favourite Christmas Scent?
I love cinnamon it makes me feel Christmasy instantly so that probably. I'm not too sure though I'm not like obsessed with candles and stuff.

7. Do You Have Any Christmas Eve Traditions?
Well my family is Christian even though I am not particularly religious. Every year we all go to Midnight Mass so I guess that is a tradition. The best thing is all the Christmas Carols before it. Also my dad really can't sing but he thinks he can so that makes me giggle!

8. What Tops Your Christmas Tree?
Well because of the Christian thing it's an Angel. I would actually prefer a star because the angel that goes on the top of my tree really freaks me out because it has this really creepy smile!

9. As a child, which was the gift that you asked for but never recieved?
I was always fascinated by those big silver cross prams for dolls and I remember always flicking through the Argos catalog and putting every pram that was roughly the same to that kind of  pram on my list but I never received. I still get upset when I'm playing with my niece with my really old and plastic pram that's no use!

That's the Christmas Tag! I love how every single family has very different traditions even though what we are doing is very similar if that makes sense.

What's your favourite thing about Christmas?

Also this is my last post until Christmas so Merry Christmas to every single one of my readers and I hope you enjoy your day!

My Favourite Memories Of 2014

Hey Guys!

Today's 'favourites of 2014' post is the last in the series for this year because these have been the main things that I could recount and remember. Also school finished for the Christmas holidays today which has made me super excited for Christmas now!

This 'favourites of 2014' post is a bit more personal than the others because these are my favourite memories that have happened throughout the past year. I know 2014 hasn't finished yet and I hope to make as many unforgettable memories in the last few days that I have!

I decided not to number them because I tried and failed to decided which ones were my favourite when planning the post. So instead I have put them in order of when they happened.

The Lion King - January At the very beginning of this year I went to go and see the Lion King with all of my family up at the Edinburgh Playhouse. The Lion King is one of my all  time favourite Disney films so when I was told that we were going to see the theatre production I honestly couldn't contain my excitement! It was honestly amazing! The costumes, the set, the singing, the dancing, EVERYTHING!

Tiree: Outside The Box - January There is a big festival up in Glasgow called Celtic Connections and when I saw this gig at the ABC I just knew that I had to get tickets! I actually ended up winning tickets and I went up with my best friend. We had the best time ever at it singing along to all of our favourite bands! Which were all from the island of Tiree so; Skipinnish, Skerryvore, Trail West and Gunna Sound.

My Last Dancing Show - March This year I had my last dancing show which was extremely sad because it was an end of an era but on the other hand it was such a highlight because it's a moment I will always remember taking my final bow on the stage as the oldest class. I also felt really proud because I helped with the younger classes so seeing their faces light up as soon as the curtain opened was amazing.

German Exchange - June The German Exchange is an event that has been in my life for 4 years now and I always have such a great time on it making friends and experiencing new things! This year we were in Scotland and I had two partners called Carolin and Elisa. I had also starter the blog by then so I blogged about the experience of course! If you want a full detailed story about the German Exchange then you can go have a read.

TMF 2014 - July I have been to Tiree Music Festival for the past 2 years and I can honestly say that it has been one of the biggest highlights for both 2013 and 2014. This time I went with friends instead of family which made it even more fun! TMF might actually be my favourite memory from 2014 but I'm not entirely sure. Again I had my blog so you can go and find out my experience at the festival.

Skipinnish Ceilidh - August As part of Cowal Games there was a family ceilidh with my favourite Scottish band, Skipinnish. I went with my friends and we had the best night ever! The band played anything that we requested and it was honestly such a laugh! I go to tons of ceilidhs every year and this one has been one of the best by far! I blogged about my whole weekend while it was Cowal Games.

Edward Scissor Hands Ballet - November I went to see this with my dancing class and what we saw was stunning! The way you can tell a story through dance and music only astounds me and I loved every second of it. I had such a nice evening with everyone going out for dinner and then to the ballet. I felt extremely posh telling everyone I was going to the ballet! That weekend was extremely busy for me and if you want to find out more you can!

That's my biggest highlights of 2014. There are others but they are just me going to a cafe or watching a movie with friends which is a bit boring for you guys to read about but they are something that I will hold on to forever!

What have your favourite memories of 2014 been?

My Favourite Songs Of 2014

Hey Guys!

The last time I posted a favourites post it was my top musicians from 2014 and today I am doing my top songs. I decided to make two seperate posts because there are songs I like by musicians but I don't like the rest of their music so that is why.

15. All About That Bass - Meghan Trainor - This song is stuck in your head as soon as you hear so even though I hated it when I first heard it now is definitely a song that I love to hate! It is all about loving your body whatever it looks like which I believe is a messaged that needs to be said more!

14. Happy Little Pill - Troye Sivan - When Troye announced that he was going to be releasing an EP I was literally jumping for joy and Happy Little Pill the first single was amazing and super catchy! Also the meaning behind the song is so touching!

13. All Of Me - John Legend - This song got so much airplay on the radio and that is because it's a master piece! It's so sad and a great song to listen to when you just feel like crap and you want to mope around and eat icecream!

12. Heart and Soul - Twin Atlantic - This was the first single from Scottish band Twin Atlantic from their album Great Divide. It has a great beat to it and when I need to be motivated this is the song that I always put on because it gets me going!

11. Rather Be - Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne - A band that has only appeared this year and has grabbed the nation's attention with this great song. It was catchy and had a great tune to it and we were all singing it! I believe that these guys will go far!

10. Happy - Pharrell Williams - Yes it has been horrendously over played but you guys know that this is one of your top songs of 2014. It came out in late 2013 and is still super catchy! It's a great song for when you are feeling down and need a pick me up!

9. Don't Stop - 5 Seconds Of Summer - When I first heard of 5SOS I told myself that I was not going to like them and I was going to stay away and I did until I heard this song... I am now officially a 5SOS fan. There I've said it and it has been  uploaded onto the internet so I now can't take it back!

8. Riptide - Vance Joy - This song brings up so many good memories of me being on the German Exchange and that is why I love it! It has such a nice feel to it and you can't help but have a wee dance to it even if it is by yourself in your bedroom!

7. Budapest - George Ezra - As soon as I heard Budapest I feel in love and that was away back in April and it's now December and I still love it! It's another song on my list that just has a nice feel to it and I love revising to it!

6. Let It Go - Yes, another song from 2013 but come on! Frozen has literally taken the world by storm and this song is amazing! The Idina Menzel version just to clarify I think the Demi Lovato one is horrendous! This song just reminds me of my 2 year old niece and all of the fun we have together!

5. Somebody To You - The Vamps - This is a band that I have been following since the beginning and I mean the beginning! I was one of those teenage girls that stalks there Youtube channel for whenever they uploaded a new cover and now they have an album and are going on an arena tour! It's crazy and this song is one of my favourites from their album.

4. Walking On The Waves - Skipinnish - Now this is a song brings back some great memories whether that is while I was on the island of Tiree for TMF or in the ceilidh tent during Cowal Games. This has definitely been way up there with my favourite songs and if you go have a listen you will know why!

3. Stay With Me - Sam Smith - When Sam Smith guest appeared earlier this year on Taylor Swift's RED Tour I just knew that he was going to big and I was right! This is an absolute tune! Definitely a show song haha!

2. Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran - This is a song that the first time I listened to it I found that I had tears in my eyes. It really does hit you right in the feels just Ed's voice and the lyrics. Also the video is incredible! As someone who loves to dance I get to appreciate how hard that was for Ed who isn't a professional.

1. Shake It Off - Taylor Swift - Again this isn't really a surprise that this is my favourite song of 2014... This year has been difficult shall we say and every time I hear this I can't help but dance and sing along to it, it is definitely my feel good song and always seems to pick up my mood!

There you have it my favourite songs of 2014! There was only going to be 5 but I kept thinking of songs haha! What are your favourite? Any of them the same as mine?

The Worst Ceilidh Ever!

Hey Guys

Today's post is a bit different for a number of reasons! I have taken a break from 'my favourites of 2014' series that has been running to give you a life update.

Usually my blog is filled with fun and happy things that I have either experienced in my daily life and today this post is going to break the mould.

Last night (Thursday 11th December) my school held it's annual Senior Christmas Ceilidh that fundraises for our leavers dance. As you guys know I love a good ceilidh always have and probably always will but last night obviously just wasn't my night. So I thought I would explain why it wasn't one of the best nights of my life...

Getting ready for the ceilidh was great I was with my friends and we all sat and talked about everything and anything for hours beforehand. I must admit that the chat was needed between us because it had been aaagggeeesss that we had a proper catch up outside of school.

Once we had eaten we then went to go and get ready. If I'm honest my group of friends isn't exactly extremely girly. Of course we love getting all dressed up and yeah we have all the concerns about whether we look good or not but we don't cake ourselves in makeup and are quite laid back when it comes to that sort of stuff.

It took me and my friend Sharon like 50 times to get the perfect wings in our cat eyes which was so funny! It was my first time using liquid liner instead of a pencil so it was quite daunting! Rachel just sat there and told us whether the eyes looked the same as she sat and curled her hair I'm pretty sure she must of got extremely bored by the end of it! We also all ended up leaving the house with the same lipstick on which I thought was quite funny! My other friend Lucie came by as the time neared for us to leave and that's when tons of photos occurred!

Once we arrived at the ceilidh we all got drinks and sat down while everyone else arrived. I must admit that the committee did a great job with the whole event and our school actually looked good! More pictures occurred while we waited for the ceilidh to actually start. Sean and I always have the first dance at a ceilidh together so that is what happened and then I mixed and match with all of my friends. I even had to dance with my guidance teacher!  In the first half of the ceilidh it was all the traditional dances that everyone knew so it was pretty good.

As you all know I suffer from pretty bad anxiety and as the night went on with everyone on the dance floor I began to get extremely anxious so I left and went and sat outside in the office area. What didn't help was that people kept coming up to me and asking if I was ok which didn't help to be honest because I just wanted to be left alone. I then got the courage to go back into the hall but as soon as I did I felt even worse so I had to get out again. This time I ended up having a full on panic attack and I pretty much knew that my night was just going to get worse from there... But I had to keep going and pretend that everything was fine and that is what we did.

The first half of the ceilidh band had finished and then they had some of the talented students play. Lets just say that the majority of people there were highly intoxicated and it got a little out of hand and some classic songs got ruined... I actually lasted for most of the break in the hall which was a massive achievement for me!

The second half of the ceilidh band started and I just couldn't deal with it. I kept getting extremely anxious and I just couldn't do it. I got up and danced a couple of times but as the night drew to a close I ended up just sitting down at the table. I feel so horrible about the whole night because I feel like I ruined my friends night because I was feeling so crap.

So yeah that was why the ceilidh was so bad. Not because of the ceilidh band which were great but because of my anxiety...

My Favourite Musicians of 2014

Hey Guys!

Another best of  2014 post for you guys! This time it is musicians! I will also be doing a favourite song one but that's a bit different.

5. Lewis Watson - A singer songwriter that I discovered in late May and have been obsessed with since! He was noticed through his YouTube and then finally released his debut album earlier on this year called 'The Morning'. It is perfection and if you like Ed Sheeran you will love this guy!

4. George Ezra - We have all heard the song 'Budapest' and it is still on repeat for me even though it has been majorly over played! Once I heard that song though I had to go and do some digging on him because there was just something about his voice that I was obsessed with! He also released his debut album this year all 'Wanted On Voyage'.

3. Ed Sheeran - Finally we got some new music from Ed this year! He released his second album called 'X' or 'Multiply' it did have mixed reviews from people because they didn't like the r'n'b feel about it but I personally loved it!. He is definitely an artist that is on my 'to see live' list!

2. Skippinnish - Now a band that more or less all of you haven't heard of and that is probably because they are a Scottish ceilidh band. This year these guys have gone from strength to strength and have now passed Skerryvore as my favourite band. You guys need to go have a listen to them right now I suggest 'Walking On The Waves'.

1. Taylor Swift - Surprise, surprise my favourite is Taylor Swift which is always the case anyway but this year she brought out her fifth album '1989' which has now confirmed her transition from country to pop! I have always loved Taylor and probably always will and 'Shake it off' is my go to song when I feel like crap!

So there you have it my favourite musicians from 2014! What have been yours?

My Favourite Books From 2014

Hey Guys!

As 2014 is speedily drawing to a close I thought I would give you a rundown of my all time favourites from this year.

First up in this mini series of mine is my first love - books! My favourite books are a mix of just single books as well as series' so yeah :)

5. The Beautiful Creatures Series - A lovely series that goes on for 4 books that follows a love story between Ethan Lawson Wate a mortal and Lena Duchannes a castor. The series follows how they fight to be together through these two very separate worlds that don't believe that they can be together.

4. The Perks of being a Wallflower - This is a book that I have not long finished and it was definitely a book that gets you thinking about life after reading it. The story is about a boy called Charlie who is pretty much a complete loner. He writes to an anonymous person throughout the book telling them everything about his life and how it all begins to change as he moves into high school and becomes friends with Sam and Patrick.

3. The Mortal Instruments Series - This is a series of 6 books and I am obsessed with it even though I have only ready 4 out of the 6 books. It is about a girl called Clary who is introduced to a world that she should of grown up in but it was kept hidden away from her. As the series continues it shows how Clary begins to integrate into the Shadowhunter world.

2. The Fault In Our Stars - Yes I was one of those teenage girls that loved this book and if I'm honest I am not ashamed at all! The story is based on two teenager suffering from cancer focusing more on Hazel. It shows how the two of them fall in love and begin to live life to the fullest. It's extremely sad so make sure you have tissues with you at all times!

1. The Divergent Series - So this was my favourite book/series that I read over 2014 and it was also one of the first so I'm surprised that it is still up there. It is a trilogy that reminds me of The Hunger Games but is extremely different! It is based in an alternative universe where people get sent to different section to live depending on their aptitude. The books follow a girl called Beatrice later named Tris as she goes through the biggest and toughest time of her life.

So that is my favourite books of 2014! Are any of them the same as you? If you have any suggestions for what I should read next then hit me up!
