Why I Don't Like Gifts

Hey Guys!

It is going to be my 18th birthday on Sunday and on one hand I am super excited because you can legally drink in the UK at 18 and then I'm also really nervous because of the gifts...

I really don't like gifts at all in both senses of receiving and giving. Why? Well let me tell you.

The reason I don't like giving gifts is because I'm always really scared about the fact that they might not like them. I always like to please people so when they aren't happy with what I have chosen for them I always get this super weird feeling in my stomach.

I'm also a super indecisive person so actually going through the process of choosing the gift is always very stressful for me! A thought that is constantly on my mind is what other people have gotten them in case my present is either too expensive or too cheap. I hate to stand out in any way and the thought of having my gift stand out freaks me out!

Now some of you may find this weird but I hate being given gifts! I don't know why I just do! I haven't always felt like this but certainly over the past few years I have had this super awkward feeling of accepting a gift or something nice at all for example a lift home!

I have a really big family which sucks on some levels (the amount of gifts I receive) but it also has this super great side about the fact that I have so many people that support me! When my brother or sisters come up to me and ask what I want for Christmas or my birthday my immediate response is to shrug my shoulders. Partly because I don't really like asking for what I would actually want. You might find that really weird but when my Mum goes just write a list I can only think of like 1 thing that I really want and then the rest are just stupid wee things.

We live in a world where we or certainly I am very privileged and I feel pretty comfortable with everything that I own and don't really feel like I need anything else because I don't want to become super spoiled. I'm not sure if everyone feels the same as I do but that's how I feel!

Now don't get me wrong along with this weird anxious feeling I get when I have been given a gift there is also a sense of happiness because obviously the person giving you the gift cares about you because let's be honest they wouldn't go out and buy something if they weren't!!

Also I have this feeling that I don't deserve the gift that I am being given which I have now discovered is because I have ASD and it is one of the traits that comes along with it because a person with ASD struggles to understand social attributions (don't think it's the word I'm looking for but I shall role with it).

That is how I feel about gifts! Looking back on this post I have realised that it is extremely weird and I would be extremely surprised if many people actually reach the end of this post! If you feel the same about how I feel or feel in any other way please let me know in the comments!

A Few Changes Around Here...

Hey Guys!

Recently I have been very creative when it comes to my blog. In fact blogging has felt more like a chore especially over the past week which sucks because I really do enjoy it and I'm super proud of what I have achieved with it!

Since my blog began I decided to post twice a week and I stuck to that but while I was blogging throughout December I wanted a bit more of a challenge because I felt that blogging twice a week wasn't pushing me enough so as soon as 2015 arrived I have been blogging 3 times a week. I have now realised that I don't have the time to come up with 3 quality posts a week so I have decided to go back to 2 a week.

I might go back to 3 posts after I have had a bit of a break from it because I just have a lot going on in my life and it sounds like such an excuse but it really is! So you should watch this space for more information about how often I will be posting!

Also I'm always up for suggestions on what you guys want to see on Catriona... so please send in requests for posts or tell me what you enjoy reading about on my blog!

Not only have I been feeling adequate when it comes to blogging recently I have also been pretty unhappy about my blog design so I'm going to spend some time playing about with it so please bare with me while my blog looks not as polished like it usually does!

Again I'm no professional when it comes to blog design, I'm only a teenager, so my knowledge is pretty limited so again any suggestions for good websites I'm all ears!

I hope all of you are ok with me slowing down my blogging pace but trust me on this, I'm not going anywhere I will still be posting every week! I hope you all have a great week and I shall speak to you all soon!

Fangirl ~ Book Review

Hey Guys

Yip that's right I'm back with another book review! This time it is a book called Fangirl which I found randomly in my local bookstore. One of my favourite things to do is just peruse the YA section  whenever I can and I can never seem to stop myself from buying at least one book...

Anyway Fangirl is by an author called Rainbow Rowell which honestly when I first heard the name I presumed it was an alias but once I kind of internet stalked her (not in a creepy way) I found out that it is actual her real name!

I would definitely say that Fangirl is your typical girly young adult book with a girl and a boy and a new experience the only thing about this book is that it is set in the right now and not in a Dystopian World or has any supernatural stuff in it which is quite a rare occurrence nowadays.

The book follows a girl called Cath who has just started her freshman year in college. Luckily for her she isn't going alone because her identical twin Wren is going there to but Wren decides to go off and do her own thing without Cath which Cath finds difficult to come to terms with.

Cath dreams of being a writer one day and for the moment she writes Fanfiction about her favourite book series Simon Snow (basically Harry Potter) which get hundreds of thousands of hits with every chapter she publishes but she finds it difficult having the time to write Carry On, Simon (Cath's fanfiction story) as well as experiencing the college life.

Throughout the book you see Cath become more confident in herself and actually putting herself out into the world. She finds it difficult making friends but eventually she becomes friends with her roommate Reagen, Reagen's best friend Levi and with a boy in her Fiction Writing class Nick.

Honestly I feel like I may have said too much regarding the plot so I think I might just stop now!

The thing I loved about this book is that it really was relatable and you could picture yourself as a timid freshman like Cath was. Also before every chapter there was a page dedicated to the Simon Snow world which I really liked which included snippets from both the real life books as well as the Fanfiction that Cath has written and posted online.

Again like my last book review of Girl Online I noted down some of the quotes that I really just loved and thought I should share them with you guys!

"Just... isn't giving up allowed sometimes? Isn't it okay to say, 'This really hurts so I'm going to stop trying'?"

I guess I took note of this quote because well isn't it something we all think some time in our life and to see it written down just proves that we aren't all alone with these sorts of thoughts.

"I like you like really like you. Like, really like you. And I want that kiss to be the start of something not the end."

Honestly how could I not keep a note of this?! This was just so cute and I think it's something all of us girls want someone to say to us!

So yeah that's what I think about the book Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Have you read it if not I really think you should!

I'm waiting on a delivery of another of Rainbow's books called Eleanor & Park which I'm so excited to read!

When I'm Anxious I... | Step Away From The World

Hey Guys!

Whenever I post something anxiety related whether it is tips and tricks or my own personal experience with it you guys seem to respond amazingly to it! I have even had a few tweets asking for some more tips so I'm back with another When I'm Anxious I... post! If you missed then first one then I definitely think you should check it out (totally not biased)!

If you suffer from anxiety you become super cautious about going out into the world I especially do! I always have a calculated plan of what I'm going to do and have thought of many escape plans for when/ if I need them!

My main New Years Resolution was to stop over thinking and just go out into the world and enjoy life and that is what I have been doing! But sometimes the anxiety can get just a little bit too much for me and I need to step away from it all which is not a bad thing!

Source: Pinterest
I always get really frustrated with myself when I get really anxious in front of my friends or anyone really! I hate having a panic attack in front of anyone because I feel like I'm letting people down when I'm not and I've finally learnt that it is okay to take a break from the world.

Taking a break from the world sounds weird and can be difficult especially for an anxious person because their mind is running at about 10,000 miles a minute which really isn't healthy and I have found a good way to take a break is to get lost in a different world! A world that you don't belong in...

I think this might be why I watch an awful lot of TV and read tons of books because getting lost in a world that you can't go in and getting wrapped up in the characters that live there is so exciting!

Source: Pinterest
Personally, I mix and match between the supernatural stuff and just normal life partly because I think it is good to have a bit of a mix! I'm always looking for TV show and book suggestions so if you have any comment them below!

Before bed I always watch an episode of TV and read some of my book because it stops me going over everything that happened during the day so I can't over analyse it which just makes me super paranoid and then I can't actually sleep...

Also, don't regret taking a full day out of your busy life to have a duvet day with movies, tv show marathons and bad food and that is a tip for everyone!

Taking a step back from the world can get you excited for what can happen in your life!

Valentine's Day Tag

Hey Guys,

Yes, that's right Valentine's Day is fast approaching in fact it is tomorrow! I usually do a tag around some form of holiday even though this really isn't a holiday but thought I would do it anyway!

1. What is your favourite Valentine's Day treat?
A tub of Ben & Jerry's ice cream! I've been loving their Peanut Butter Cup one at the moment.

2. Sweethearts or chocolate covered strawberries?
Probably chocolate covered strawberries. Got to keep healthy and all of that!

3. What was your favourite Valentine's Day memory?
Is it sad that I don't have one? I have never actually been in a relationship with someone over Valentine's Day so I have never actually celebrated the day of love. I mostly spend it by myself watching sad chick flicks.

4. What movie would you rather watch on Valentine's Day; Pretty Women or You've Got Mail?
I haven't seen either of them but I will watch them this Valentine's Day I promise!

5. What celeb would you not mind having as your Valentine?
This question is so hard! Any of them hahaha :') But I must say Zac Efron was my first celebrity crush and still is up there in my top 5 so shall we say him?

6. What would you do on your perfect Valentine's date?
My ideal date would be to go to a concert and just dance the night away to our favourite music but I love having a movie night and cuddling while watching a movie and eating crappy food!

7. Red or pink lips on Valentine's day?
I would definitely say a red lip! I only have a red lip stick though so it is kind of a given for me...

8. What is your ideal Valentine's Day date outfit?
As long as I'm comfortable and feel good in what I'm wearing then that suits me! The main thing is to feel good in what your wearing. Always wear something for you and not someone else!

9. Homemade or Store bought gifts?
If I get a gift at all then I will be happy! After all it is the thought that counts.

10. Would you wear your hair up or down on a date?
I always feel more confident when I have my hair down. So probably that! I'm awful when it comes to doing stuff with my hair and I would just feel lazy if it was up.

There you go that was the Valentine's Day tag! I think you  guys should do it too either on your own blog or in the comments below!

My Perfume Collection

Hey Guys!

A popular post of mine is my story of me getting My First Ever Lipstick so even though I may not be very much into makeup I do love Perfume!

I love searching for a new scent because it is part of who you are and it is quite nice when someone asks around who smells so good and you are like I think it can be me?! Do you feel me?

I guess with perfume I get to be girly even though I might not be in other places! So without further a do here is my perfume collection!

1. Itimately Beckham For Her £24.99 This was one of the first fragrances that I ever had and it has been in my collection for years! This is also the bottle with the littlest left so I'm in the middle of deciding if I want to repurchase it or not.

2. Harujuku Lovers Music - I searched for these everywhere but they are now discontinued! Now this perfume was the first ever perfume that I actually bought! It was ages ago and it is a perfume that I rarely use because it is so special to me! I adore the smell of this stuff and if it is a special occasion I will probably be wearing this!

3. Harujuku Lovers Christmas Edition - Again these are now discontinued which is such a shame because I was obsessed with them! These are the only two that I have left! A friend got me this because she knew how obsessed I was with these perfumes! I love collecting the bottle because of all the little dolls!

4. Sexy from Sex and the City  - £14.65 this is for the gift set This is my everyday scent pretty much unless I fancy mixing it up but that rarely happens! I think it is because it is such a big bottle that I don't mind wearing it everyday! I think you can only buy it as a gift set but I'm not sure!

5. Taylor by Taylor Swift £22.00 Now as you guys know I adore Taylor Swift to bits and when she released this perfume I knew I just had to get it! I still can't believe I don't have the others! Now apart from it being a Taylor Swift perfume this might be my favourite out of all of my perfumes! The smell just reminds me of good memories from the summer it's crazy how we associate a smell with a memory!

6. Givenchy Play for Her £53.50 My most expensive perfume in my collection and also another favourite of mine! Because it is so expensive I use it sparingly which is so difficult because it smells SO GOOD and you just want to use it all of the time!!

7. Ghost Eau De Toilette -  £33.50 Finally my latest perfume that has been added to my collection is Ghost! I was given it as a gift at Christmas time and I will admit I love it! I haven't worn it an awful lot but it is sure becoming a firm favourite in my mind!

So that is my perfume collection! I don't know if it is super big or super small but it's what I have and I'm pretty happy with it! I would love to have a Marc Jacobs one though!

What is your favourite type of perfume?

What I Have Been Loving Recently

Hey Guys!

Did you know I haven't done a favourites post since October?! Crazy I know but the wait is finally over because I'm your reading one right now!

As you know when it comes to beauty I completely suck so it is a pretty well rounded favourites post. If you have been loving anything that is the same with me please let me know in the comments below because we can fangirl together!

Over the past month I got back into Tumblr. In fact I decided to just create a new one because I was actually locked out of my old one for changing my email address oops! I'm constantly on it which isn't great because I'm already great at procrastinating. If you are interested on what post there it is mainly just photos and I don't know really just things that I have seen around the internet and loved so if you want to go and lurk round there you can!

Now because my next favourite is practically glued to my side over the winter months and that is Vaseline. I'm always so cautious about getting chapped lips because I get them so easily and I seem to apply this stuff nearly every 5 minutes! In fact the day I forgot it I got chapped lips! How unlucky is that?

A really random thing that I have been loving recently is scones. I always reach for a scone when I'm out and about having a cup of tea instead of some chocolatey cake. I think it just shows how British I am to be honest! A scone and some butter with your tea is honestly the best! Can you get any weird flavours of scones because I might have to try some?

As you guys know I'm constantly watching TV. Whether that is old TV shows that have been cancelled, my favourites that have lasted for years or ones that I have never had the time to watch until now. The latter is the case this month! I'm obsessed with Grey's Anatomy and I just never had the time to go and watch Scandal which is a show created by the same person, Shonda Rhimes. I am so glad that I have finally got round to watching it because it is amazing! It is a political thriller that may put you off at first but trust me it is so good!

Also I'm a massive book worm so of course I have read plenty during the month of January. Most of what I read was from The Maze Runner series which is 4 books but I have only read the first 3. I'm going to go and get the fourth one as soon as possibly though! If you like The Hunger Games then there is about 95% chance that you will love these books! There is also a film which I am yet to see but it is on my list!

Speaking of movies I am ashamed to say that I had never seen a Marvel movie until this month and it is seriously beyond me why I have waited this long to watch them?! I have seen the first 2 Iron Mans, The Incredible Hulk and Thor and I cannot wait to go and watch the rest of them!

So that is just a few things that I have really enjoyed this month! What about you guys?

The Ultimate Study Session Guide

Hey Guys!

Prelims have officially begun in my school this week otherwise known as mocks I believe in England but don't count me on it!

I think it's super difficult to get the motivation to study but once you start you can carry on and I have some tips to help motivate and help you get your revision done!

These might not help everyone but they certainly help me!

1. Organise

First off you need to organise your study area. If it is clean and tidy you are much more likely to sit and work. Also the fact that it is tidy to begin with helps you to stay organised throughout your study sessions. A tip that I always follow is making sure I have every part of the material near my study area because you get distracted when you need to go and hunt for that sheet with the diagram on it! Reminder that your bed is not a study area!

2. Have A Plan

I often like to list everything that I want to do throughout the day whether it is study related or not so a list is perfect! Also you get the satisfaction of when you have completed the task and you get to tick it off your list! An important thing is to triage ( fancy medical term I know thank Grey's Anatomy for that :') ) your work and do either the hardest work or the stuff you hate the most. For me, I would put all of my maths revision at the top of the list because I hate it and then work out which out of my maths revision do I hate the most and start with that.

3. NO Distractions

While studying you need to have no distractions because you lose momentum. In this generation it is so difficult with Social Media and literally anything on the internet! I must admit I'm like the Queen of Procrastination but I have finally found a way to stop! Blocking apps have been created which lock all of your social media apps on your phone. You set out the time and then it locks it! It is perfect! I also found one if you are on a Mac but not for any other PCs yet sorry! For - Macs

4. Take A Break

Taking a break is honestly one of the most important things. This helps your brain to focus more but the key is to not take too many breaks because that just in't going to work! Usually I say 2 hours of studying then a 30 minute break. During your break you must re-hydrate water, water ,water it is so important! Also have a snack which helps your mind to re-energise preferably not junk food though, have an apple or a slice of toast.

5. Listen To Your Brain

This is probably one of the most important ones! If you have been studying for a long period of time and your brain is starting to get tired it's a sign you should probably stop. Also if you are beginning to find it hard to focus that usually means you should take a longer break than you have been taking. Powering through the tiredness isn't going to help you retain the information that you are wanting to learn!

Hope these tips help you while you are having a study session. Good Luck to all of you out there who are sitting any type of test or exam at the moment!

A Look Into My Life | January

Hey Guys

So I thought I clicked the publish button yesterday but when I came online to see how it had done I saw that I hadn't even published it so sorry!

January has honestly been quite a slow months compared to recent months where I had multiple big events that happened that I could blog about but in my opinion what happened in January didn't deserve it's own post so I've decided to just cram it all into one!

My first post this year was my New Years Resolutions and if I'm honest I'm not doing to badly. My routine is getting better compared to what it was last year but it still isn't where I want it to be. At the moment I go to school 3 days a week with a day in between which seems to be working for me. Also because my routine is better it has helped with my mental health and I feel a lot brighter so hopefully I'm finally on the road to recovery!

One of my most important resolutions was to be more sociable and I have stuck to that! I have met a bunch of my friends a number of times usually at my favourite cafe or we have had a movie day and I'm really glad for it! Because I'm in the last year of school I want to make the most of spending my time with my friends because who knows where we are going to be next year?!

A big part of my life moment is being head of our school yearbook committee. I admit for an anxious person this isn't great at times but at the same time I really enjoy doing it. At this moment we are collecting lots of sheets from my classmates and they are saying what they enjoyed about their time at school and also where they will be in 10 years and going through these sheets has been hilarious!

The most important thing to happen in the month of January was probably me applying for college. I have decided to go and study media which is on the complete other side of the spectrum if you had spoken to me 6 months ago when I was dead set on studying French and German but well life got complicated so that couldn't happen. Anyway after lots of thought I finally did it and I'm about to go and apply to another college! Of course I will keep you guys up to date with what happens because I'm totally in the dark at the moment!

For some reason more or less everyone I know has a birthday in January which isn't great because you are usually absolutely broke from Christmas! My best friend had his birthday during the first week and I still haven't given him his present! I really am an awful friend. Then I have to wait till the final week in January to have 5 birthdays one after the other which includes my mum, dad, nephew, neighbour and of course my dog! So the last week in January is always mayhem! It was my nephews 18th so of course I went to that and it also was my first ever 18th birthday party (let's say there are some drunken texts that I really regret sending...) and I was constantly out to dinner! I feel like after all the dieting to get all the Christmas weight on I have put it all back on after the past few days!

So that's a little catch up for you because I feel like this month has been pretty impersonal compared to most of the time so that's why this is here.

Also sorry for posting on Tuesday instead of Monday just think you won't have to wait a day in
between till my next post!
